Words from the City had its world premiere screening at the Adelaide Film Festival on Friday the 2nd of March.

The screening was followed by an after party at the SoCo Cargo in the festival’s Garden of Unearthly Delights where Joelistics and Seed MC of TZU, Wire MC, Choo Choo and Hau of Koolism performed to beats supplied by DJ Danielsan (Koolism).

The film was well received with The Age Film Critic, Philippa Hawker, writing:

“The festival… put money into Words from the City, Natasha Gadd and Rhys Graham’s invigorating documentary on the Australian hip hop scene. The film creates a beguiling sense of place, showing how the performers define themselves through where they come from : their music is about family, class, ethnicity, the pressures and pleasures of the everyday. There is ebullience, idealism, energy, sly humour in the artists they focus on: they are all in different ways, articulate about their commitment to the alchemy of words and performance”.
