An Arenamedia Production

A group of Australian directors from various disciplines, including Daybreak’s Rhys Graham, and directors including Justin Kurzel, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Connolly and Warwick Thornton, were each invited to adapt and create a filmed chapter of the hauntingly beautiful novel by Tim Winton.

Spanning three decades, the chapters revolve around the coastal town of Angelus in Western Australia. The linking and overlapping stories are preoccupied with the extraordinary turning points in ordinary people’s lives. As characters face second thoughts and mid-life regret, relationships irretrievably alter, resolves are made or broken, and lives change direction forever.

This remarkable feature film is an Arenamedia production, produced by Robert Connolly and Maggie Miles and 'Small Mercies', the chapter directed by Rhys Graham was produced by Philippa Campey of Film Camp and included many regular collaborators including DOP Stefan Duscio, production designer Zohie Castellano, composers Flynn Wheeler and Christoper O’Young and editor Natasha Gadd.

The film premiered at the Berlinale International Film Festival and was nominated for several AACTA Awards including Best Film and Best Direction. Notably, Mirrah Foulkes was nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Actress for her work in Small Mercies.
