Hurt

Hurt

5 Screen Film Installation, 50 mins, 2003

Hurt is the result of an extraordinary project where 250 marginalised young
people from isolated towns in rural Australia were invited to tell their own stories
of experiences of domestic violence. In 1998 filmmakers Phillip Crawford and
Matthew Priestley from youth arts organisation BIG hART worked with the young
people to create an AFI award-winning film Hurt from these poetic and haunting
stories.

In this new commissioned version of Hurt, Rhys Graham of Daybreak
Films, in collaboration with Crawford created a multi-screen artwork that puts the
viewer into the midst of this fragmented world of broken lives, beauty and
bravery.

The work was first exhibited alongside artists and filmmakers such as
Chris Marker, Sadie Benning, Alexander Sokurov and Jem Cohen as part of the
Reverberation: Remembrance & The Moving Image exhibition at ACMI in 2003.
