Nali & Friends

Nali & Friends

Short Animation, various durations, 2019

While travelling together in a troopy throughout Uganda and Kenya, ARIA award winning musician Dan Sultan and Daybreak Films director Rhys Graham came up with the idea to create a children's album of songs and stories.

The end result was 'Nali and Friends', an album released through ABC Kids.

'Nali and Friends' is a series of funny songs and stories about oddball animals from different parts of the world. We meet the animals through Nali, a baby Arctic Tern who loses her way on her inaugural migration from the north to the south pole. From the jungles of Uganda to the highlands of Borneo and the deserts of Australia, she and her new pals learn about friendship, kindness and how to care for the world around us.

Using funny, upbeat songs and heart-warming stories about growing up, about protecting our natural world, and about learning to accept difference, 'Nali and Friends' introduces young viewers to giraffes who think they’re elephants, blobfish who want to rock’n’roll, easily frightened frill necked lizards and flatulent baby gorillas. 'Nali and Friends' invites young children into a world where they can sing, dance, laugh and learn alongside a crazy bunch of animal characters.

The project has led to a series of children's books published by Ashton Scholastic as well as a series of short animated films produced by Daybreak Films and created by Rhys Graham using Tali Gal-on's beautiful illustrations and animation by Pixel that bring to life Nali and her cute, oddball friends.
